Canterbury Campus Ministry meets at 5 PM on Sundays

The Muriel Sibell Wolle Gallery

The Muriel Sibell Wolle Gallery is located in the southeast corner of the St. Aidan's main building. Our artists and exhibits change frequently, so come by often to see what's new. The gallery is open to all during St. Aidan's office hours and, of course, on Sundays. If you're interested in displaying your work in the gallery, please download a copy of the Exhibitor Contract.

About Muriel Sibell Wolle

Muriel Sibell Wolle

In March of 2009, St. Aidan's celebrated the opening of the Muriel Sibell Wolle Gallery with a reception and a first exhibit of her works, gathered from the homes of several parishioners. The purpose of the Sibell Wolle Gallery is to provide a place for university artists – students and faculty – to have a small gallery space, and to build our relationship with the University. Exhibits by others in the community are also possible.

Often called "the grande dame" of the Department of Fine Arts at the University of Colorado during the first half of the 20th century, Muriel Sibell Wolle was best known for her drawings and paintings of mining communities in the western states. Her artistic plan, she wrote, was to "catch the mood and quality of the town . with a sympathetic and dramatic interpretation."

Muriel Sibell Wolle

Sibell Wolle wrote and illustrated several books, including Stampede to Timberline and Montana Pay Dirt. Many of her drawings are in the Denver Public Library. Some of her books are available in the Gallery at St. Aidan's for viewing.

Muriel Sibell Wolle headed the Fine Arts Department until her retirement in 1966. While at CU she designed the stage sets and costumes for more than 70 CU drama productions. In 1976 she was named one of CU's twelve alumni of the century. She married esteemed English professor and drama coach, Francis Wolle in 1945. He later was ordained an Episcopal priest and served Saint Aidan's faithfully.
